In her words

My work has always been about people

Systems matter. Policies matter. Programs matter.

But people experience all three.

My leadership has been shaped by one central belief: we cannot create meaningful change without knowing the people we serve — their strengths, their stories, their cultures, and the barriers they are navigating.

That belief has guided my work as a social worker, administrator, principal, district leader, author, researcher, consultant, and community leader.

Leadership, for me, is about creating what should already exist.

I have spent my career building, leading, and reimagining systems so that students, families, educators, and communities have greater access to opportunity, support, belonging, and success.

My leadership is shaped by experience across classrooms, schools, districts, research, policy, and community spaces — but also by identity, culture, relationships, and the responsibility to challenge systems that are not working for the people they were designed to serve.

I believe strong leadership requires more than managing what already exists. It requires the courage to ask better questions, build differently, develop others, and create pathways where people can see themselves, use their voice, and lead.

That belief is at the heart of everything I do — from educational leadership and systems change to research, writing, community work, and the MijaLumbre Leadership Framework™.
